The New Dune: Part Three Trailer Looks Awesome

The new trailer for Dune: Part Three has arrived, giving us our first proper look at the final chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s version of Frank Herbert’s universe. I’m not going to lie – it looks utterly awesome.
The film is due in theaters and IMAX in North America on the 18th December, 2026, with its international release beginning on the 16th December, 2026. Which feels a long time to wait. Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures describe the film as bringing Villeneuve’s, quote, “epic trilogy to a breathtaking conclusion.”
The film is set nearly two decades after Paul Atreides seized control of the Imperium. Apparently, Dune: Part Three moves into the territory of Herbert’s Dune Messiah. A book I have but haven’t yet read. (It’s supposed to be great though.) Paul is no longer simply the young exile rising against his enemies. He is now a ruthless emperor, haunted by visions of collapse, surrounded by conspiracy, and forced to confront the consequences of the power he claimed.
The official synopsis teases old allies returning, new threats emerging, rebellion brewing, and Chani sitting at the heart of a new mystery. That alone suggests this will not be a simple victory lap after Dune: Part Two, but a darker story about what happens after the chosen one wins.
Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, with Zendaya back as Chani. The cast also includes Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaach de Bankolé, Charlotte Rampling, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson and Javier Bardem.
Villeneuve directs from a screenplay by himself and Brian K. Vaughan, based on the novels by Frank Herbert. Behind the camera, the film also brings back major creative names including production designer Patrice Vermette, editor Joe Walker, costume designer Jacqueline West, casting director Francine Maisler, and composer Hans Zimmer.
After the scale, spectacle and success of the first two films, Dune: Part Three looks set to close the trilogy by asking a much more uncomfortable question. Paul Atreides won the war. Now he has to live with what that victory has made him. The first two movies were superb and I have no reason to doubt this won’t be as well.
