The Force is strong with Star Wars right now

A week ago I was all awash in humorous science fiction but now the Force is, rather predictably, directing me back to the Star Wars universe. I guess the midi-chlorians in my blood get a bit antsy in the month before a new Star Wars film. I wish George Lucas would go back and tinker with them rather than the goddamn Greedo and Han scene. Midi-chlorians suck.

I have recently been reading some of the new Star Wars comics and obviously obsessing over the Mandalorian – only seen the first episode but really enjoyed it. Obviously next month is the grand finale of all the Star Wars films. The Skywalker saga anyway, although officially I think Kylo Ren is the only one with Skywalker blood left. Or is he? Ooooh…

I want to go dark side of of the Force!

On top of all that I have just started to play Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order which is absolutely superb fun. You play a Padawan who was training to be a Jedi until Order 66 – kill all Jedi – given at the end of Episode 3. You obviously just have light side of the force powers, which is a shame, but you still get to twat a lot of stuff with a lightsaber, so that is nice. It is great to play a single player game that is story based and so in this case – where the story is about re-forming the Jedi Order – it can only be a light side of the force guy as the main character.

The Knights of the Old Republic was a similarly excellent first person Star Wars game where your decisions altered what side of the force you character ended up as. Which was fine. What I would love, if anyone in power ever reads this, is the chance to play a game where you start out as a Sith and just go full on dark side of the force for the whole game. Bollocks to the learning stage, I want full-on force expert from day one. Because as the films clearly show, there are the awkward years.

Light side vs dark – the teenage years

When they are young, all those with a high midi-chlorian count are annoying. Although to be fair that pretty much goes for all teenagers. Light side of the force teens seem all lost and yearning, and prone to staring at the sun. Whereas dark side seem like dickhead angry teens full of rage and whining. Only once they are past this stage do they become wise (and a bit smug) if light side, or fucking cool if dark side. I want the latter. I want to play someone like Vader and be in a scene like at the end of Rogue One where he just demolishes a load of faceless opponents.

I am obviously a Star Wars fan and as things currently stand, that is a good thing. As a Chaotic Neutral Force User, I like variety and am happy to see how things pan out – for good or evil, I don’t care, as long as it is interesting and fun. And right now, for the next month or so, the Star Wars Universe promises to be a lot of fun.
