Star Trek versus Star Wars. Franchise fight!

I have been posting a lot of Star Wars related material recently and it is time to perhaps redress the franchise balance a little with an info-graphic I cam across. It doesn’t actually redress any balance but I kind of liked it and thought I would share.

It is almost impossible for me to pick a favorite between the two as both franchises have been huge parts of my life. Both have superb moments and stories that I will passionately defend to non-science-fiction-admiring friends but then both have scenes / episodes / movies that are embarrassing as fuck and I pray my non-science-fiction-admiring friends never see because they are impossible to justify. For every Janeway and Paris turning into lizards and having sex, there is a Jar Jar Binks. Kirk being ridden like a horse by a magic dwarf versus the godawful love scene in Attack of the Clones. You get my point.

What both franchises are doing is different and when they are doing it well, they are both superb. If you want some thoughtful and intelligent scifi, then Star Trek wins. If you want balls out excitement with space ships and laser guns / swords – Star Wars, obviously.

So to conclude – both are equally, on average, all things considered, brilliant.
