Guardians of the Galaxy 3 with Gamora and Adam Warlock

The new Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer dropped the other day and already has me tearing up. It features all the usual elements you’d expect – laugh-out-loud humour, a cool soundtrack, and a tug of the old heartstrings. Here is a poster:

I love the Guardians of the Galaxy series and its sense of humour and adventure. I grew up reading the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and The Stainless Steel Rat, and Guardians movies echo some of that joy and sense of fun.

This latest will be similar but, I suspect, sadder. James Gunn has hinted that this will be a more emotional and gut-wrenching movie, and the trailer certainly reflects a slightly more sombre mood. It should still be funny, though.

Two things that have got comic book fans chatting and twittering are the inclusion of Gamora and Adam Warlock. The first is down to Gamora being dead, but thanks to timey-wimey stuff, an earlier version of herself is back.

This is to be expected, but the big question is whether she will get back with Peter Quill. Given that Quill has lost his mum, dad, surrogate dad, and lover-Gamora already, means he definitely will get together with her. You can quote me on that.

Adam Warlock was created to destroy the Guardians, so that is his role sorted. Still pretty cool to see, though.

Which of the Guardians will peg it?

The bigger question for me is who will likely die. I think – and again, you can quote me – Drax and possibly Nebula. Both arcs were about their revenge, and both of them achieved their aims. Drax will die saving the Guardians. Nebula will die saving her sister – possibly. I hope I am wrong, as I like her, and she could have a great spinoff as a bounty hunter or something.

Quill and Rocket have sad backstories, so will be happy by the end. Or at least content. Groot and Gamora have already died, and once is enough. It is hard to say about Mantis – she is pretty handy, and I also fancy her, so I’ll leave that open.

Whatever happens, I am confident it will be great. Now I just have to wait until the 5th of May.
