The weird Star Trek and Spongebob crossover I wasn’t expecting

I was browsing YouTube and saw a clip called “Patrick Starship Enterprise | SpongeBob Joins the Star Trek Crew”. It sounded insane and I watched it. And if you are Trekkie and missed it, you should watch it too.

I saw a version that had been posted by someone other than Paramount, and so at first, I thought it was done by AI. But it was so well done, and had bits that would be harder to fake (like Pike catching a burger). I soon realised it was a genuine but weird crossover.

Back when I was a bit of a stoner, I used to watch Spongebob occasionally. In the UK they had a lot of weird kid stuff on at 1am like classic The Magic Roundabout, the original Monkey, and Spongebob. (Plus Takeshi’s Castle but I don’t know who that brilliant show is aimed at.) It could only be for stoners and loads of my friends remember the period fondly.

I have also been a Star Trek fan my whole life and I’ve enjoyed the few episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds I have seen. (I should watch more but don’t have Paramount and pirating is too much effort / immoral). I know there is an episode where they all sing, so it didn’t seem a stretch that they might do a crossover. Well, maybe a bit of a stretch, but it could be a dream or a holosuite adventure for a kid.

But no. It is just a crossover advert. And a brilliant one. If seeing Anson Mount / Captain Pike saying “commence nautical nonsense” doesn’t make you smile, there is something wrong with you.

I have waffled enough. Here is the Star Trek Spongebob crossover you need to see. Enjoy.
