The War of the Worlds miniseries on BBC
Someone at the BBC has had the brilliant idea of making a version of War of the Worlds that was similar to the book – set in London at the end of the 1800s. The book came out in 1897, so I am guessing it is around then. (Although this would be cool.) It should make a nice change from modern day America.
The BBC show is going to be a three part mini-series that stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall, Robert Carlisle and Rupert Graves. The story seems like it will differ from the original, which will be nice as you won’t know in advance what is going to happen. Apparently Spall and Tomlinson will play a young couple called George and Amy who are in love and will, at a guess, be legging it around London while a ton of people get zapped with heat rays. Presumably the invasion itself will pan out in a fairly predictable way but who knows, maybe there will be a new take on it. I personally doubt it, because it is actually a pretty good ending, but maybe they will mix it up.
I am cautiously quite excited. The BBC is pretty good at this sort of thing and the War of the Worlds is a damned entertaining story. (Ignore the second half of the movies.) With a good cast and killer aliens, it should be a lot of fun. I had read recently that it was due out in Autumn 2019, which is now, so who knows when it will actually appear. The BBC denies it will be a Christmas thing, but I reckon it will be a Christmas thing. There is a bit more info here.
Without further ado – and remember this is fake – here is the trailer for the War of the Worlds mini-series.
