The Orville Season 3 resumes filming
I love The Orville. It is easily one of the best Star Treks around. Quite apart from being funny, it is well-acted and has some genuinely decent science fiction going on.
I came to The Orville a bit late. Season 2 had just finished by the time I got around to watching it and then I binged the lot in a few days. If you don’t know about it, check it out. My review is here. The wait for more has been long, arduous and annoying. Except…
The Orville season 3 has started filming again. Hallelujah!
Filming on season 3 began in 2019 and I got very excited about it. Apparently, they got halfway through when then the pandemic reared its ugly, coughing, smell-destroying head and it got put on hold. Well, good news – filming is back on.
There are going to be 11 episodes, which is fewer than before, but each episode is going to be 12-15 minutes longer. This is because Orville will also be moving from Fox to Hulu and streaming allows for more flexibility. Most commentators and rumour-mongers point to a likely release date of late 2021.
The Orville’s executive producer Brannon Braga, recently talked about the series and its production and said:
This is a work of deep passion for Seth, and it’s a really great season. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone on the show that isn’t eager to get back to work, as long as it is safe. The shot delay is simply COVID, but it’s also taking longer to film because it’s so much more ambitious even in its scope, in comparison to the first two seasons. And that’s partly because it’s on Hulu, and we can expand the scope and increase the length of the episodes, and all the reasons Seth wanted to take it to a streaming service. This season is the best one. I can’t wait for people to see it.
Seth McFarlane is doing a superb job and I can’t wait to see the new season. If you missed the Orville seasons 1 and 2, you can get them here. Enjoy.
