Space Team Comic Book #1
The Space Team Comic book is now out. Well, kind of. I got it as I backed it on Kickstarter, but there is a sense that this will now be a regular comic book. It is called Space Team: The Comic Book #1 for one thing, which would be a weird title for a one-off.
In case you are unaware of Space Team, they are a series of superb and genuinely hilarious books by Barry J Hutchison. They feature a ragtag crew who have adventures. Space adventures.
(Just FYI, Mr Hutchison also writes thrillers under the pseudonym, JD Kirk. They are set in Scotland and not in space, so they will feature on The Word of Ward rather than here.)
Anyway. Is the Space Team Comic any good? Yes, it is. In case it doesn’t come out in a handy shop near you any time soon, then check out my review of Space Team books here. They’re in audiobook version too, if that’s your thing.
The humour of the books carries over really well to the comic book format, and given the author’s success as a crime writer, I suspect the future will see more space-related shenanigans in comic book form than in book form. This is a shame, as I love the books, but a regular Space Team comic would certainly scratch that itch.
I adored the comic and only have two minor criticisms. The first is that I would like it a bit longer. It is standard comic book size, which is good, but I’m a greedy bamston and want graphic novels. The second is that Splurt should have eyeballs as he does on the cover and in the books. As I said, these are minor.
I will keep an eye out for when the comic goes on sale for the regular riff-raff and update here. Probably with a lovely affiliate link like a couple of the above. (I have to eat.)
