Quentin Tarantino doing Star Trek
It has been rumoured for quite a while that Quentin Tarantino might direct a Star Trek film. The rumours began around the time The Force Awakens came out and someone in a Nerdist podcast asked Tarantino if he would direct a Star Wars film. He replied that he would rather do Star Trek. Like all the best people, he is a bit of a Trekkie.
While he is unlikely to be the writer, he pitched two stories in particular that would be great if made into a 2-hour movie and that he would happily direct. One was The Next Generation’s “Yesterday’s Enterprise” episode which involved time travel. The other was the original series episode “The City on the Edge of Forever”, which also involved time travel. Two classic and brilliant episodes both involving time travel.
I read (or possibly dreamt) that there were other rumours where the Kelvin timeline (as in the first reboot where Vulcan is destroyed) might be changed and via time travel, events would be altered so everything goes back to the original timeline. Another rumour was that Chris Hemsworth might appear in an upcoming Trek. Hemsworth played Kirk’s dad in the reboot.
Now we shouldn’t pay too much heed to rumours. But will we soon be seeing Enterprise travelling back in time and saving Hemsworth, and presumably Momma Spock -Winona Ryder, in a Simon Pegg written, Tarantino directed, Trek? Maybe. Probably not though, these are just rumours. In case that doesn’t come to pass, the Nerdist has imagined what that might look like but thanks to further time travel, this one features Shatner et al. It is brilliant. Here is Tarantino and Star Trek, the trailer:
