Picard Trailer finally continues timeline
When I heard they were making a show about Picard I was fairly excited. I love Star Trek and having more is always going to be a good thing. I was just a bit concerned that they would they rehash old stuff and it would kind of carry on with Picard going back into space to basically just continue stuff after The Next Generation. I didn’t really believe that was something I would be all that excited about but would probably watch it because it is new Star Trek.
Then the trailer came out and it is exactly all that I was concerned and I got mega excited. I am changeable like that, it is why I am so exciting to be around. There are a couple of things that I realised I had been missing in my Trek. One was setting things in the original timeline. Why delete a timeline that was going well just because of JJ Abrams and a re-boot? I liked his reboot a lot but there was no need to effectively delete the events of all other Star Trek series. I don’t really know if the films and TV shows are now officially seen as completely different things that simply feature similar uniforms, names and organisations. Now we have Tarantino doing a Star Trek movie, it seems like the films and TV shows are not just separate timelines but different universes and Starfleets. I am not including Discovery in any of this as I haven’t seen it. My bad.
The second thing that piqued my Picard interest is that it is the first thing to come out since Voyager that continues the timeline. I didn’t realise how annoyed I was until watching this trailer that everything being set in the past is pissing me off. Voyager opened a whole new quadrant to be explored, much like DS9 did, and everything was going nicely. Then they went back in time for Enterprise. Then back in time for the reboot. Then back in time for Discovery. It’s bollocks.
Speaking of old stuff, I think we can also expect quite a few cameos. The trailer shows sexy-Borg, Seven of Nine, and Data, who inexplicably looks a bit older. If internet rumours are to be believed (generally an unwise thing to do) then there will be more. And I am all for it! Make it so!
Ok this has been out for a few days but in case you missed it, here is the Picard trailer. I am now officially on board with this. Engage:
