Morbius trailer looks pretty good

A trailer for Morbius came out recently and it looks pretty good. Mind you, most trailers look pretty good these days so that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Except for Cats, obviously, which had a dire trailer and… well, you know how that panned out.

Morbius stars Jared Leto who, if nothing else, really commits to a character. Now that he has switched from DC to Marvel, maybe he will fare better in a comic book role. But this is a Sony production, which did Venom and Fantastic 4, so I won’t hold my breath. At least, it is kind of a Sony production. After the brief power struggle over Spiderman after Far from Home came out, its seems Sony and Marvel are teaming up. The trailer has a surprise guest near the end that strongly hints that this might be the case.

For those of you unfamiliar with the comic, Morbius was a genius biologist who had a rare blood disorder. To fix the blood disorder there were some shenanigans with bat DNA, chemicals and electroshock treatments that, as often happens, turned him into a pseudo-vampire. Marvel has vampires that use magic and are created by magic but the main difference here is that he became one by science. His initial battles were with Spiderman (like Venom) and then a ton of different people including vampire hunter Blade.

As I said at the start, the trailer looks pretty cool. It strikes me as more than a coincidence that Sony also did Venom – another anti-hero Spiderman villain who later was not always the bad guy. Maybe they are trying to create a Spiderman universe thing because that is all the craze these days. Sony also made Into the Spider Verse and I would love to see more of that, so fingers crossed.
