Dune part two is officially going to happen!
It is now official – Dune Part Two is going to happen. Which is a huge relief as it would have been sad to just have Dune Part One and a cliff hanger. I am now kind of hoping that all the other books may happen, but I am getting way ahead of myself. It is also unlikely that Denis Villeneuve will be free for the sequels as the guy is too awesome.
Just the next two books will be fine, thanks Denis, if you happen to read this.
The Dune Part Two news was broken by the studio with this tweet:
Unbelievably, according to the awesomely named Giant Freakin’ Robot website we even have a date – October 20, 2023.
I love Dune and can’t get enough of it. I wrote a review of the original book here. In my er, human-equivalent-spice-melange-filled youth, I even adored the David Lynch film. Actually, I still do and don’t care what you think – it was superb and if you dislike it, you are wrong. That also goes for the Dune 2 game that flashed up when I typed that in instead of Dune Part Two. (The first proper RTS if you are interested.) I used to work for the Syfy Channel and even their series was enjoyable.
But I digress. The sequel will be out in two years. Villeneuve is already working on the script and as the first film took two years to make, it bodes well they have a similar duration for the sequel. Especially as designs are sorted, casting done, and the general vibe is established.
If you haven’t read the books, you should. If you can’t be bothered, please petition the studio and Villeneuve to continue making Dune films. Everyone loves a money-making saga after all.
