Cyberpunk 2077 reviews are in and looking good
The reviews are finally coming in for Cyberpunk 2077 and they are pretty damned positive except for a couple of issues which I will get to. I have been excited about this game for over seven years now and it is so close, I can feel my cybernetic enhancements tingling.
I first wrote about the game in 2013 when the incredible teaser trailer came out. That link takes you to me blathering on about how cool the game will be in a couple of years when it comes out (wow I was optimistic). In case you just want to see that amazing trailer, here you go because I am so nice:
Cool as hell right?
Anyway, what do the reviews say and am I still excited?
The reviewers, or at least the ones I have read, are pretty damned positive about all the things I want Cyberpunk 2077 to be. What I love about games like Skyrim, GTA 5, and The Witcher 3 (also made by Project Red, in case you didn’t know), are the huge open worlds with stories found within. The Witcher 3, in particular, had side missions that contained stories I still remember now – as well as having a great main tale.
I love games with a good story because computer games are a unique medium in which to tell a tale. Naughty Dog is a master at this with The Uncharted series and The Last of Us. Single-player, story-based games are my thing.
Happily, the reviews praise the storytelling in Cyberpunk 2077 – a huge relief. The side missions influence the main mission and are also apparently really enjoyable. This is a good thing because most reviews I have read say that the main story is actually a bit short at 20 hours. This is still a decent length in my opinion when you consider that the side missions will add at least another 20 hours. Then there will be all the mucking about trying stuff out.
Another negative that seems common among reviewers is that Cyberpunk 2077 can be glitchy. I don’t know if it is the aforementioned Skyrim or Fallout 4 levels of glitchy but I loved those games anyway and suspect I will be fine here. It is a shame but going by Project Red’s track record, I suspect they will iron this out. There will be a day one patch, which is a good start.
Also, if the Witcher is anything to go by, Project Red are likely to add some pretty amazing and lengthy DLC, which should add to the game’s story length.
I will stop waffling now and link to a couple of reviews. Literally two – one written and one video – as you probably have favourite reviewers and can google for yourself.
Here is the Games Radar review, which gave in 9/10.
Here is the IGN video review, which gave it the same score. Enjoy.
