Chaos Walking with Holland and Ridley finally coming out
In 2017, Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley and Mads Mikkelsen started filming Chaos Walking. We now have an interesting looking trailer. It is based on Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness, a young adult dystopian trilogy that is apparently very popular. I don’t really read much YA fiction although I enjoyed Mortal Engines – the book that is, I haven’t seen the film (although the trailer looked cool). Apparently, Chaos Walking is ridiculously well regarded and has won a ton of awards.
The blurb from Lionsgate sounds interesting / crazy:
In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet’s dark secrets.
Lionsgate
The delay was down to poor audience reception that required reshoots. Which should inject a note of caution but hopefully it can be fixed. Unfortunately, the two leads selfishly got involved in other relatively successful franchises as a Spiderman and a Jedi and were a bit busy. Those reshoots have now been done and we now have a shiny new Chaos Walking trailer.
The film is directed by Doug Liman who also did The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow. The latter is a pretty batshit mad idea for a film and yet it was superb, so I will allow my hopes to be raised.
