Bilal: Legends of Today is now on sale and is incredible
Legends of Today is a collaboration between Enki Bilal, one of Europe’s most famous comic book creators, and multiple award-winning comics writer Pierre Christin. I get sent a lot of press releases and usually forget / am too busy / get distracted by squirrels to pass them on but in this case, I will be good. Thank you Titan Comics!
First up, here is the blurb:
A gripping, prescient masterpiece of science fiction, beautifully painted by award-winning creator Enki Bilal – legendary comics artist for The Nikopol Trilogy. Legends of Today brings together the first three volumes that Enki Bilal has created in collaboration with the award-winning scriptwriter Pierre Christin. This endearing panorama of the generous utopias of the time, nourished by modern fantasy and a certain humour, still preserves a remarkable freshness today.
Legends of Today by Enki Bilal and Pierre Christin
This is a great selection of comics. In case you are curious about the style, here’s a sample page – spoiler alert, it might contain spoiler alerts. These pages are right at the start of book one, so don’t worry.
It’s all very cool.
Legends of Today brings together The Cruise of Forgotten (1975), The Stone Vessel (1976) and The City That Did Not Exist (1977). Here is more info:
Antagonised by an enigmatic character with supernatural powers, these three stories delve into the lives of various traditional communities as they fight against the police, the army, and all those in power…
BILAL: LEGENDS OF TODAY is illustrated by Enki Bilal (The Nikopol Trilogy, Exterminator 17, Monster), in collaboration with Pierre Christin, the multiple award-winning comics writer (Valerian). Bilal is regarded as one of the greatest European comics creators working today, and his most famous work, The Nikopol Trilogy, has been released as both a videogame and a film (directed by Bilal) called Immortal, starring Charlotte Rampling. Extremely controversial on its release, Legends of Today remains a searing modern fantasy, spiked through with humour and observations on the nature of power and resistance.
