Alita: Battle Angel
Alita: Battle Angel is an upcoming movie based on a manga comic called Battle Angel Alita. Not sure why the word order was changed but both are damned catchy. Alita is a cyborg with eyes like Emma Stone and a mysterious past. Happily, it seems like this mysterious past means she is shit hot at fighting and wasn’t a robot butler or sexbot or something. The ‘not knowing who you are but seem to have cool skills’ is a trope that has been done a lot. E.g. Bourne, Dark City, or the game Horizon Zero Dawn. Happily, I love them all. I haven’t read or seen the source material, so it will be fun to see where this all goes.
Alita is produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, who together have a good pedigree in delivering highly watchable movies. It is directed by Robert Rodriguez, who is similarly reliable. Christoph Waltz is in it and I have always found him superb in everything. In summary – Alita: Battle Angel has a lot of talented people working in its favour.
A new trailer came out the other day and it looks pretty fun. Kind of like AI but with fighting and fewer people crying. I am also a huge fan of anything Cyberpunk and have yet to dislike a James Cameron film, so colour me excited! Here is the trailer:
