Man of Steel gets a new outfit thanks to Snyder

Just over a week ago, I wrote about Superman and how he was pretty lame and hailed General Zod as being a lot cooler. All hail General Zod! I had pretty much forgotten that Zack Snyder was doing a new version Superman called Man Of Steel.

I’m a big fan of Snyder. When I first heard that they were doing a remake of Dawn of the Dead I was outraged. The original Romero version was my all time favourite zombie movie. Why not remake one of the myriad of other zombie flicks that were shite? I then reluctantly watched it and after the unbelievably brilliant 15 minute opening sequence (including the Johnny Cash scored credits) I had to admit that the film was now my new favourite zombie movie. What can I say? I’m fickle.

Then came 300. Not brilliant but ever so pretty to look at and some throroughly cool violence.

I was a big fan of the Watchmen comic so was a bit worried when they made it into a film. Again Snyder came up trumps. My review is here.

I’m obviously not a particularly devoted fan as I have yet to watch Sucker Punch. The trailer features hot chicks in sexy skirts fighting robot samurai, so I fail to see why critics weren’t all that favourable unless they are just lame or desperate to prove how PC they are. Most of the criticisms seem to claim it glorifies violence and objectifies women. Yet they seemed fine with 300 when 300 nearly naked men get slowly killed off in gory limb chopping action. I think the film posters for both movies make it clear what the film will be like. If you are offended by half naked people of either gender, then simply don’t watch these sorts of films. Go and watch a French art film or a Von Trier ‘Dogme’ movie and feel superior (while watching full frontal nudity – but it’s ART). Morons.

Anyway.

As I said, Snyder is doing the new Superman movie and I suspect it will be awesome. He has a flair for action and sequences that just look cool. Plus, his main nemesis is set to be General Zod! This will surely mean destruction on an epic scale as superhumans fight it out. Hopefully by chucking buses or building at each other while things explode. Much better than the man of steel being duped and brought low by stupidity and Kryponite. He even has a cooler new outfit that was released onto the interweb recently. It’s a bit tight and might objectify him a bit, but I’m willing to let that go.

Man of Steel gets a makeover

I haven’t been excited by a Superman movie since I was 8 in 1980 when I saw Superman II. Hopefully that is about to change.
